Project Overview

Payme identified a critical gap in financial tools for Latin America's massive informal economy. Millions of microentrepreneurs from bodega owners to market vendors to small workshop operators manage their businesses with cash, notebooks, and scattered WhatsApp messages, leading to errors, lost payments, and zero financial visibility. Meetlabs delivered end-to-end: product strategy, brand identity, UI/UX design, and mobile app development, creating a fintech solution that brings digital payment management to underserved merchants who need simplicity above all else.

The Challenge

Payme needed to solve the operational chaos that plagues informal businesses across Latin America. Manual payment management generates errors, wastes time, and creates lack of transparency problems aggravated by economic slowdowns (Peru's GDP showed -0.6% in 2023). Merchants lack adequate systems, increasing fraud risk and discouraging investment. Precarious financial control prevents informed decisions and limits profitability. The platform required an identity that feels trustworthy yet accessible to non-technical users. It needed to handle USDT/crypto payments for stability, QR-based user onboarding for simplicity, and transaction tracking with PDF export for accountability all within an interface simple enough for merchants who've never used financial softwar

Project phases

Strategic Consulting

Objective: Define a payment management model tailored to informal business workflows. We mapped the daily reality of microentrepreneurs: paying employees weekly, settling with suppliers on delivery, tracking rent and recurring expenses, and needing cash flow visibility without accounting complexity. We defined core user flows around three actions: add collaborators, make payments, track history.

Market Research and Business Strategy

Objective: Validate market opportunity and define positioning for underserved merchants. We analyzed the Latin American informal economy representing over 60% of employment in Peru and identified that existing fintech solutions target banked users with smartphones and data plans. Research confirmed massive demand for simple, mobile first payment tools that work with limited connectivity and require minimal financial literacy. We positioned Payme as the tool that lets you "pay your team without complications."

Brand Identity & Visual Strategy

Objective: Build a brand that conveys trust and simplicity for non-technical users. The Payme identity lives within the Wanya ecosystem while establishing its own recognition. Deep green conveys financial stability and growth, while the lime accent on "me" adds energy and personalization this is YOUR payment tool. The wordmark is clean and readable at small sizes, critical for mobile contexts. Visual language uses real photography of local merchants to build immediate relatability and trust.

UI/UX Design

Objective: Create an interface so simple that first-time smartphone users can manage payments confidently. We designed around three core screens: the dashboard showing balance and recent transactions, the user management view for employees/suppliers/other contacts, and the payment flow with clear confirmation steps. Large touch targets, minimal text, and visual hierarchy guide users through every action. QR scanning enables instant collaborator onboarding without typing wallet addresses. Transaction history with PDF export provides accountability for users who need records for their own peace of mind.

AI-Powered Automation and Prototyping

Objective: Reduce manual effort and surface actionable insights for business owners. We prototyped smart features including automatic payment categorization (employee, supplier, rent, other), spending pattern analysis with simple visualizations, and payment reminders for recurring expenses. Future iterations will include AI-suggested budgets based on historical cash flow and anomaly detection for unusual transactions.

Mobile App Development

Objective: Deliver a lightweight, reliable app that works across device types and network conditions. We built a React Native application optimized for mid range Android devices common in the target market. The app features offline first architecture that queues transactions when connectivity drops, camera integration for QR scanning, and PDF generation for transaction reports. USDT integration through the Wanya wallet provides stable value storage immune to local currency fluctuations. Performance optimization ensures smooth operation even on devices with limited RAM.

Database Architecture & Cloud Deployment

Objective: Support secure transactions and reliable data persistence for financial operations. We architected for financial grade reliability: encrypted transaction storage, real-time balance synchronization across the Wanya ecosystem, and audit trails for every payment. The infrastructure handles the bursty usage patterns of small merchants quiet periods followed by payment rushes at end-of-week while maintaining consistent performance.

Backend Development & Integration Systems

Objective: Enable secure P2P payments and seamless Wanya ecosystem integration. We implemented wallet-to-wallet transfer APIs, user verification through wallet addresses and QR codes, and transaction categorization systems. The backend supports the multi-user relationship model where one business owner manages payments to multiple employees, suppliers, and recurring expenses. PDF report generation runs server-side to minimize device resource usage.

The Solution

Meetlabs built Payme as a mobile-first payment management tool that brings financial control to Latin America's informal economy. The app enables microentrepreneurs to add collaborators via QR scan, make instant USDT payments to employees and suppliers, track all transactions with clear categorization, and export PDF reports for their records. Integrated within the Wanya ecosystem, Payme provides stable value storage and instant transfers without traditional banking friction. The result is a tool simple enough for any merchant yet powerful enough to transform how they manage their business finances.

Deliverables for the Client

1. Branding

Payme's brand identity balances financial credibility with approachable simplicity, designed specifically for users who may distrust traditional banking. Deep forest green establishes stability and growth universal signals of financial health. The lime green accent on "me" creates ownership and personalization, reminding users this tool works for them. The wordmark integrates seamlessly with the Wanya parent brand through the "con Wanya" lockup while maintaining independent recognition. Photography featuring real local merchants bodega owners, market vendors, service providers builds immediate trust and relatability. The visual system scales from app icon to social media campaigns while maintaining the warm, empowering tone that resonates with the target audience.

2. Mobile App

Payme's mobile application serves as the complete payment management hub for microentrepreneurs. The dashboard displays current USDT balance prominently with quick access to add funds, followed by registered users (employees, suppliers, others) with avatar photos for easy recognition. The transaction feed shows recent activity with clear categorization, amounts, and timestamps. Adding collaborators happens instantly through QR scanning or wallet address input no account creation required for recipients. The payment flow guides users through amount entry, recipient selection, and confirmation with large buttons and minimal steps. Individual contact views show complete payment history with that person, total amounts paid, and one-tap access to make new payments. PDF report generation creates professional transaction records that merchants can save or share. The interface uses Spanish throughout with colloquial touches ("Altoque" for instant payments) that feel natural to the target market.

3. Strategic Consulting

An in-depth analysis of the Latin American informal economy, microentrepreneur payment behaviors, and digital adoption barriers was conducted to define Payme's positioning. We studied how small business owners currently manage payments cash in envelopes, handwritten notebooks, mental accounting and identified the critical moments where digital tools could reduce friction without adding complexity. This shaped a product strategy centered on "empowering entrepreneurs" and a go-to-market approach using community-focused channels: local influencers, market fairs, educational content showing real use cases, and user-generated testimonials from early adopters.

Achievements

Payme successfully brought digital payment management to an underserved market segment that traditional fintech ignores. The app achieved strong adoption among bodega owners, market vendors, and small workshop operators in Peru within the first months of launch. Users reported significant reduction in payment errors and disputes with employees and suppliers. The QR-based onboarding reduced friction for adding new collaborators, with 85% of users adding at least 3 contacts within the first week. Transaction tracking with PDF export gave merchants their first-ever formal financial records, opening possibilities for future credit access. The community-focused marketing approach using local influencers and educational content achieved 3x higher engagement than traditional fintech advertising. Payme is now positioned to expand across Latin America and add features including expense analytics, payment scheduling, and integration with local payment rails.
